Community Mourns Passing of Travel & Tourism Advocate Julie Schmitz Jensen


The household of Julie Schmitz Jensen confirms the passing of long-time tourism and journey advocate Julie Schmitz Jensen. WHEREAS, Julie Schmitz Jensen has been a tireless advocate for the journey and tourism trade because the late Seventies when she started her customer trade profession within the administration of Governor Richard Kneip; and

WHEREAS, Julie’s profession within the tourism and journey trade has included stints in Pierre, Sioux Falls and twice in Rapid City, the latter leading to greater than 20 years of mixed service selling native and space journey and tourism-related companies and people; and

WHEREAS, native tourism and journey companies – from generational family-owned entities to new start-up experiences – couldn’t discover a stronger advocate in creating, selling and advertising the customer expertise in Rapid City, the Black Hills and South Dakota, than Julie; and

WHEREAS, Julie served as government director of the Rapid City Convention and Visitors Bureau from 1983 to 1997; left to boost her household, then returned in 2014 to usher in a brand new period for the native customer expertise, overseeing the rebranding of the Convention and Visitors Bureau as Visit Rapid City; and
